Ann Curry

Ann Curry has worked as journalist for more than nearly 45 years. Her focus is on natural disasters and war zones. Ann Curry was an American journalist, TV news reporter and host who is best known for her work as a reporter on the Today program which is a morning-time broadcast newscast on NBC. Curry was noted especially for her coverage of humanitarian crises in war-torn nations and natural disasters. Curry's maternal grandmother is Japanese and her father was an US Navy Sargent. Her parents met while their father was in Japan following World War II. In the wake of her father's involvement as a military officer that they had to move around a lot. Curry was a high school graduate in Ashland Oregon. Following her graduation from the University of Oregon, Curry earned a bachelor of journalism degree in the year 1978. The exposure she received to diverse cultures and situations throughout her childhood likely contributed to the empathy with which she approaches global issues. Curry was often on the move together with her husband as well as did not go to any school more than two full years. Her school was in San Diego Alameda Oregon Virginia. Ashland was her last high school. The broadcasting profession began with an internship at KTVL Channel 10 Medford in Oregon. At age 22, she was the first female journalist at that station. Later, she became anchor and reporter at KGW located in Portland Oregon. The following year, she relocated back to Los Angeles as a reporter for KCBS-TV. She won two Emmy Awards during the six years with the station.
